This large lentil shaped lampwork bead features the artist's impression of the New Zealand native Pohutukawa tree against an abstract background.
The Pohutukawa is a New Zealand native coastal evergreen tree that is adorned with beautiful red flowers in the summer. It is also known as New Zealand's Christmas Tree. Renowned for its ability to survive perched on rocky, precarious cliffs, it has found an important place in New Zealand culture for its strength and beauty and is regarded as a chiefly tree (rakau rangatira) by Maori.
Dimensions: 38 mm hole to hole x 15 mm thick with a 3 mm hole. The hole runs from the top to bottom.
This lampwork glass bead was created by hand using a mixture of reactive glass to create the base bead which is then super heated and pressed into a lentil shape using a brass press. The tree is then painted onto the base using fine molten strings of glass. Once finished the bead is placed in a kiln for several hours to anneal which strengthens the glass, then when cooled, cleaned of bead released and made available for you to purchase. Each background and tree is a one-of-a-kind unique design.

Thank you for browsing my handmade lampwork beads. I have been making glass beads in my home studio since 2009. I love to explore
different techniques and push the boundaries of colour, design and
execution. Because each bead is completely made by hand, each is unique
and no two will ever be exactly the same. This is the beauty and
quirkiness of handcraft. Each glass bead is kiln annealed at the time it is made ensuring heirloom quality glass.
